How does the free SSL certificate of Let's encrypt work?

Modified on Sat, 16 Oct 2021 at 10:44 AM

Let's encrypt is a free initiative of some major companies in the world, like Google Chrome and Cisco. With the recent release of DirectAdmin version 1.50.0, it is possible to have a free SSL certificate which is valid for 90 days. No worries, DirectAdmin has your back and automatically renews the certificate after 85 days. This means that, as long as Let's encrypt is active and free, that you will get a free certificate validated HTTPS connection for lifetime free.

So, how does it work?

  1. Configure the Free SSL certificate from Let's encrypt in DirectAdmin.
  2. DirectAdmin requests, validates and installs the certificate.
  3. After 85 days DirectAdmin automatically renews the certificate. Step 3 repeats itselves continuously and requires no manual intervention.

It is that simple!
