How to Set a Global Outgoing Mail Limit in WHM/cPanel

Modified on Sun, 16 Mar at 9:34 AM

Limiting the number of outgoing emails per hour is important for preventing spam, improving server performance, and ensuring mail deliverability. WHM allows server administrators to easily set a global hourly email limit applicable to all hosted domains. Follow these simple steps to configure this setting.

You can also configure limits per hosting plan or per account.

Step-by-Step Guide:

  1. Login to WHM
    • Go to https://yourserverhostname:2087
    • Enter your root username and password.
  2. Navigate to Tweak Settings
    • Once logged in, use the search bar in the top left corner and type in "Tweak Settings."
    • Click on the Tweak Settings option from the results.
  3. Open the Mail Settings
    • On the Tweak Settings page, click on the Mail tab.
  4. Set the Global Mail Limit
    • Find the option called Max hourly emails per domain.
    • Enter the desired hourly email limit. For example, entering 200 means each domain can send up to 200 emails per hour.
  5. Save Your Changes
    • Scroll to the bottom and click Save to apply your new settings.

Adjusting Limits per Domain (Optional)

You can also set custom limits for specific accounts:

  • In WHM, search and click on Modify an Account.
  • Select the account you want to adjust and click Modify.
  • Set the Hourly Email by Domain Relayed value to override the global setting for this account.
  • Save your changes.

Benefits of Setting Mail Limits:

  • Reduces spam activity from compromised accounts.
  • Improves your server's reputation with email providers.
  • Enhances overall email deliverability and server stability.
